words for music
I have written the libretto for a new cantata, The Pool of Bethesda, music by Edward Picton-Turbervill. The text extends and dilates the incident from John 5, taking inspiration from Hogarth’s painting of the scene on St Bart’s North Wing’s historic staircase, and explores themes of water, healing, and community. The piece is for three soloists as well as a community choir made up of staff and patients from the hospital. Premiere 20th November 2025, St Bart’s Hospital, North Wing.
